A pioneering campaign initiative launched by Sustainable Housing Leadership Consortium (SHLC) with focus to mainstream development of green homes in India.

In July 2017, SHLC launched this campaign with the goal that by 2022, at least 20% of new houses to be developed in India must be green.

Launched in 2016, Sustainable Housing Leadership Consortium focuses on sustainable ways of development of cities. SHLC considers various factors that influence sustainable development of cities such as energy efficiency, Zero-energy building meaning net total energy consumed by the building is approximately equal to renewable energy produced by the building, developing housung to adapt to climate change and to mitigate the effects of climate change.

SHLC was convened by the World Bank Groups's International Finance Corporation under the Eco cities initiative aided by European Union. It also has backing from private sectors involving PNB Housing Finance Corporaion, HDFC Limited, Godrej Properties Limited, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, and others major real-estate developers.

These types of campaigns are very essential not only for India but every country since climate change is a global concern. Greener housing is a way to make massive savings in energy consumption and water consumption, and improve the standard of living.
