Nowadays all are troubled by the heat. We can see that the temperature is making a new record every day. 10 years before no one can imagine they will face this kind of situation. But we know that temperature will rise continuously due to global warming, Therefore If you are thinking to build your new dream house then you should take some precautions to keep your home temperature below the environment. Here I am giving an illustration of how an architect keeps the heat 7-10 degree below the surrounding temperature. You can use these methods to beat the heat in your dream home.

BLUEPRINT FOR GREEN COOLING:-

“Prof Kakani, an architect, and his wife Jaai re-designed the house after acquiring it in 2000 to make it heat-resistance. The home has stone flooring, high ceiling, and extensive cross-ventilation which make it 7-10° cooler than the ambient temperature.”

They used the lime and marble plaster which contains low energy and has very efficient heat resistance to keep the premises cool for long,” said Prof Kakani. You can also use louvers instead of windows. One of the biggest challenges in reducing the temperature indoors is not allowing it to heat up in the first place. Wooden louvers insulate during the hot days and allow cooling down of premises through ventilation when temperatures are conducive outside.

But the biggest experiments in the house is the use of a funnel to allow surrounding air to come in and spread across different rooms of the home through the vents with the use of a fan — a system that precludes the need for an AC. Both sides of the home have small water ponds, bringing in a cool breeze. The terrace garden with 10 inches of earth provides a buffer between the floor and heat.

They have also used bamboo and natural foliage to cover the façade and windows to minimize heat penetration. Cooling is surely easier for a standalone unit as a lot of planning — ranging from factoring in the wind direction to the use of material — goes into the construction. It is not costly but needs expertise. So if you are not able to do yourself then you can contact an architect. They are expert in this field.

POL HOUSES:-

Some dating back nearly two centuries — weathered many a summer with their unique architecture, said Ashish Trambadia, the director of AMC’s Ahmedabad World Heritage City Trust. “You can see pol houses primarily in the north-south direction, making the most of the wind flow in the city,” You can build lots of windows and open spaces which are useful to keep the interiors cooler.
The typical pol residence of Vijay Shah is two years shy of a century. “You will surely feel a difference of up to 5° as you enter the house. The central courtyard — open to the sky — functions as a funnel that brings in hot air and cools it down,” Shah said. “The narrow design of the home permits a lot of shade while the big windows remain open at night and early morning to allow in a cool breeze,”  Shah said that each floor’s ledge is a bit longer than the lower one, creating a natural shade for the house.
Debashish Nayak, the member secretary of the AMC’s Heritage Conservation Committee, said that pol houses have a scientifically designed air circulation system. “The grilled front door is almost always open. It allows air to enter the house,” he said. “The hotter air gets upward movement through the open courtyard which is replaced by comparatively cooler air through smaller openings.” He said that the narrow lanes of the pols trap air to make it cooler.
